Volunteer Opportunities at Beth Torah
Join the wonderful group of people who volunteer at Congregation Beth Torah. There is a way for everyone to become involved, and we need everyone’s help to strengthen our community. Read through the opportunities below and contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Intfen at lintfen@beth-torah.org or (913) 498-2212 to get connected or if you have any questions.
Please click on the link below to download a Form, and mail it back to the office.
Worship and Prayer
Shabbat Honors: Would you like to celebrate a simcha in your life by blessing the Torah, or reciting kiddush during our erev Shabbat worship?
Choir: Love to sing? Come sing with your Beth Torah friends. Join the Choir-- no audition required. Choir meets on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m.
Guitar or Piano: Do you play the piano or guitar? Our music department can put your talent to good use!
Study
Hebrew: Would you be willing to teach/help children or adults with their Hebrew? How much time you want to commit is up to you.
Substitute Teaching: Fill in for a teacher on a Sunday morning, Saturday morning, Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday evening.
Prayer Checker: Our Hebrew program includes a wonderful component of congregational involvement. Twice a year we have a “Read-in” on Wednesday afternoons where we need volunteers to listen to our students read prayers. We always have plenty of popcorn for everyone! (Hebrew reading skills required).
Acts of Loving Kindness
(As projects draw near, you will be contacted with sign-up information)
Phoning: We need help with our “Home for the Holidays” project (assuring that everyone has a place to be for Rosh Hashanah and Seder meals) and other events during the year. Work in the comfort of your own home!
K’sharim Tribe Leader: Take a month a year to make the vision of Beth Torah as a caring community reality. Distribute acts of loving kindness opportunities to your tribe.
Mitzvah Day: Join fellow congregants for an afternoon of study and community volunteerism. This year’s date is October 23rd.
Chanukah Basket Project: Help fill a family’s wish list as we work with Jewish Family and Children’s Service to assemble Chanukah baskets to be delivered to needy Jewish families in our community.
January meals for reStart: Help prepare and serve lunch or dinner on a weekend in January. Great activity for all ages.
Spring Day of Tikkun Olam: Spring project that sends a large group of volunteers to one site to help repair the world.
SAVEhome Dinner: Our congregation provides dinner every Sunday for SAVEhome, a hospice for men living with AIDS. We ask that you prepare and deliver a meal for 8-10 people. You are encouraged to stay and eat with the residents.
Commitment to Beth Torah:
Baker: Would you be willing to make some homemade goodies for our Oneg Shabbats or holiday receptions? You can drop them off in the CBT freezer at your convenience!
Shalom Squad: Be part of building a sacred community by addressing the needs of : greeting, hospitality and friendly attentiveness during erev Shabbat. Be here on Fridays to welcome people as they walk in and let them know what a welcoming community Beth Torah is.
Welcoming Members: Help welcome new Beth Torah congregants. Deliver Shabbat baskets or agree to sit with a new member during worship services.
Office Volunteer: Do you have a couple of hours every week to lend a hand with answering the phones and other general office work, or would you be willing to help on an occasional basis with large projects (mailings, etc.)?
Library: Volunteers are needed on Sunday mornings to read to Religious School students, help them check books in and out, and re-shelve books.
Chili Cook–Off: Help plan this fun and well-attended fundraiser.
CBT Golf Classic: Help with our annual Golf Tournament. Drive a beverage cart, help golfers check in or help run one of the many activities of the day.
Youth Group Chaperone: Our youth programs always need extra adult chaperones. Even if you don’t have youth group age kids, it’s great fun to spend an afternoon or evening with the youth of Beth Torah.
