Congregation Beth Torah's Committees
Congregation Beth Torah’s Vision includes the statement “We are committed to maintaining and building VOLUNTEERISM as the lifeblood of our congregation.” You can become a part of this vibrant organization and begin your journey to achieving your own covenant by joining any of the committees listed below.
- Most committees meet periodically during the year, plan programs, and suggest policy for the entire Beth Torah community.
- Committee participation is a great way to meet others and feel connected to your Beth Torah family.

Adult Education: Provides a wide range of educational programs that meet the spiritual and everyday interests of our congregation. The programs usually take place 10 a.m.- Noon, on Sundays, while Religious School is in session. (Co Chairs: Gregg Herman and Herman Kanter)
Budget & Finance: Prepares a budget of the annual income and expenses of the congregation. This committee assists in financial planning for the congregation. (Chair: John Spector)
Cemetery: Oversees the running of the cemetery, including policies, rules and regulations. (Chair: Michael Blum)
Fundraising: Creates projects & events that will provide income for the congregation. (Chairs: Linda & Barry Katz)
CBT Classic Planning Committee: Help plan this annual golf tournament. Work with staff to collect prizes and sponsors and coordinate all the details of this annual summer day of fun.
Hospitality: Join our Shalom Squad and help create a sacred community on Friday evenings by welcoming congregants and visitors and by extending Beth Torah hospitality. Can’t be here on Friday evenings? Help bake sweet treats for Erev Shabbat. Help welcome Shabbat with food! (Chairs: Alyson and John Spector)
Library: Oversees the growth and development of our learning resources collection. (Chairs: Laura Carroll and Laurie Finkelstein)
Membership: Prepares “Shabbat Bags” and organizes delivery to new members. (Chairs: Irene Goldstein and Beti Weber Moskowitz)
Music: The music committee is generally interested in the musical life of the congregation. The music committee supports musical activities for both adults and children. We are responsible for developing musical policy and programming at CBT. Musical ability not required – musical interest a must. (Chair: Jennifer Blum)
Social Justice: The committee informs the congregation of social justice issues of concern to the Reform Jewish community and facilitates congregants’ participation in social action and community volunteerism. Ongoing projects include: SAVEhome Sunday night dinners, Mitzvah Day, Pleasant Green Community Care Project, Children’s Mercy Christmas Project, Chanukah & Passover Basket projects, January meals at reStart, Mitzvah Tree Projects, and a Spring Tikkun Olam project. Youth Activities and Education: This is a combined committee which is responsible for the policy and programming for the youth of Beth Torah including, TYG, JYG, 5th and 6th grade youth groups, and college programming. This committee also develops ways to meet the educational needs of our Weiner Religious School, creates a supportive environment for religious growth through joint learning for parents and children, and supports the Religious School administrator and faculty.
